Scientists Create “Artificial Life”
Posted by Paul Myers in Currency & Finance on May 24th, 2010
US scientists today announced theta they have successfully developed the first synthetic living cell, a world first. The team of scientists and researches claim to have successfully added to a host cell a synthetic bacterium’s genetic software. The end result of this experiment was a host cell that looked and behaved like the impregnated synthetic DNA, which was effectively being dictated.
This advance in science has been billed as a landmark experiment; however critics have already said that there could be many dangers posed by developing synthetic life. Scientists are eventually hoping that further advances will see the development of medicines and cells that can provide fuels and possibly absorb greenhouse gases.
Researchers hope to further develop the breakthrough to eventually create cells that can provide fuels, medicine and even combat and absorb harmful greenhouse effect gasses.
The team, led by Dr Craig Venter of the J Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) in Maryland and California. Dr Venter has previously made a synthetic bacterial genome and successfully transplanted this genome of one bacterium to another.
The team of scientists has successfully put both of their methods together to create what they are calling a synthetic cell, although in truth the only true synthetic element is the genome. Dr Venter went on to compare the experiment as similar to making new software for the cell.
The researchers copied an existing bacterial genome. They sequenced its genetic code and then used “synthesis machines” to chemically construct a copy.
Once replicated, the ‘new’ bacteria replicated itself over a billion times and in doing so producing copies that contained and where controlled by the constructed synthetic DNA. The team hopes to eventually design and then build some new bacteria that will perfume useful functions.
The team of scientists are currently collaborating and working with some pharmaceutical companies.

Compare Health Insurance Quotes Is The Best Healthy Advice
Posted by John Bellafonte in 1 on March 4th, 2010
It is always a good idea to have health coverage. Every insurance agency is going to have differences in their policies and the cost of them so compare health insurance quotes to know where there savings will be. Coverage types can also vary greatly so learning all of this can help as well.
Health coverage does not just mean an illness or injury. People who are healthy also need this. It will pay for physician care for routine visits, testing, visits to the ER and anytime the physician is seen for ailments. When there is no coverage, the quality of care and the price that is paid is going to come back on the person who is not covered and this can be quite expensive.
Prescription medications are another area that consumers often can benefit from having health insurance. If you compare health insurance quotes between insurance providers, then it is important to see how much that medication will cost under each plan as well as how high the co-pays are. Many times, co-pays will be less expensive if a consumer chooses generic over brand name drugs.
The cost of health insurance is determined by many different factors. Employers can often offer group plans that save their employees money as opposed to what individual plans cost. Many plans also offer extended coverage for long term care or disability and those plans will change the cost of a person’s premium. There are specific types of coverage that can be used in the event of certain diseases.
Deductibles are another consideration when looking at the terms if you compare health insurance quotes. This is the amount that is going to be paid before the insurer pays anything towards health care. What this means is that the more that the consumer pays the premium is going to cost less.
There is also a network that all providers are going to belong to. These may not always be the same as the one that is being used by the insurance company. When they are included, this can lead to savings for both the company as well as the insured. The person who chooses to use a doctor who is not in the network is going to pay more.
Co pay fees are very similar to deductibles and should also be researched when looking for insurance. This is also an amount that is going to be paid when getting medical treatment and is also associated with payments to pharmacies which a deductible would not be. There are many different options when it comes to how much this amount is going to be.
Each health insurance company is different. There are various types of policies and fee schedules attached to each of them in regards to family size, insurance needs and other considerations. Whenever you compare health insurance quotes, be sure to read the fine print to make sure that you understand what the policy entails and that you understand the benefits. When it comes to choosing an insurance policy, knowledge can translate into some serious savings.

Save Money on Health Insurance – Creative Tips

Get more health insurance with less money.
This may be hard to understand, but sometimes you need to buy two health insurance policies to save money and get better coverage. Many agents are helping their customers buy more coverage for less money with this solution.
Medical Plans with a High Deductible
Consider major medical health insurance. We all know it is expensive, but a higher deductible plan can be a lot more affordable. It can also be easier to be accepted for one. And I have seen top insurers who even offer longer rate guarantees on them, and some come bundled with prescription coverage and doctor’s office copay features.
A $5k to $10k yearly deductible may seem very high. But consider saving hundreds every month on your premium bills. People who get rated up, because of a health condition, may save even more. For some people, a higher deductible health insurance plan may be the only affordable option.
Accident and Health Insurance Supplements
Have you seen health policies that supplement major medical by providing cash payments for accidents or illnesses. They are usually pretty inexpensive, and they pay out in cash. This money can come in handy if you need to pay expenses that are not covered by your health insurance policy. The cash can also be used for other associated costs like living expenses, transportation, etc.
You may be able to purchase a supplemental health and accident policy as a package, or find one accident policy and one sickness policy. Sometimes health insurance comes with an association membership, and the association provides supplemental coverage for a very reasonable price!
A qualified insurance professional can help you.
There is no doubt that medical plans cost a lot of money. But a qualified professional should be able to listen to your needs and work with your budget. If you can find a person who can shop the market of all of the companies who work in your local area, it will help you.

An affordable dental insurance means that you get the best kind of service for your dollars, while preventing damage to gums and teeth. Many people make the mistake of looking for cheap and affordable dental insurance plans, not paying attention to other factors that make the subject of the insurance contract. Consider the following suggestions before making your choice, and maybe the plan you go for will be more advantageous for you as a patient.
Maybe you get an affordable dental insurance, but will you be able to choose your dentist? Just as it is the case with plenty of other insurance types, some cheap dental packages will restrict you to the service of certain doctors only. The freedom to select your dentist is less accessible if we speak in terms of the monthly fees of insurance plans.
Another problem frequently encountered with cheap or, more politely said, affordable dental insurance is that the policy coverage is restricted to the cheapest treatment for the dental condition. Even if there are better treatment possibilities, and you won’t be able to use them because your affordable insurance plan covers only the lowest-paid type of service.
Inspiring Quote of the Day: “People seldom improve when they have no other model but themselves to copy.” ~ Oliver Goldsmith
When you decide for ad effective dental insurance plan, carefully analyze all the elements it includes. A good package will thus cover X-rays, fluoride treatments and two cleanings per year. The payment for the rest of the services should be split 50/50 between the patient and the affordable insurance plan. If the treatments are extensive and complex, the costs will also be higher with variations from case to case.
A very affordable dental insurance plan may limit one in terms of the flexibility to set an appointment for instance. Some dentists plan their services for clients belonging to a certain insurance group or category on special days of the week, and this schedule could be pretty inconvenient or inflexible for the patient. Check for these details before choosing the dentist rather than afterwards, because there may be little you can do about the situation.
The most important question one ought to ask about an affordable dental insurance plan is: what will I pay? By far the best option a family has is an employer sponsored dental insurance that significantly limits the costs of the procedures. Then, tax deduction is possible in the case of people using premiums to cover their oral health expenses.
Therefore, no matter if you choose a very affordable dental insurance or a comprehensive one, the truth is that you’d still pay less money, than if you had to cover the medical interventions out of the pocket.

An Introduction To Health Plans For College Students
Posted by Clarissa Winegarten in Currency & Finance on August 13th, 2009
People have different ideas about the college student health insurance plan. There seems to be no clear cut understanding about this particular medical insurance plan among the general public. Most of the insurance policies for children expire with the child crossing out of the teenage years.
Young students generally don’t have much income or no income at all so there is every possibility that they don’t have any insurance at all. So in this case, student health policy offered by colleges is a good solution. Students should make a smart choice to decide and pick one among those that is right for them.
Different colleges have different student medical health insurance policies and most of the time these insurances are free. This attracts and catches the attention of the students and they forget the basic fact that this type of insurance only covers regular health check up costs only and don’t even cover the tests or diagnostic costs for the disease. So this should be kept in mind.
Another important fact that the student has to keep in mind is that the free health checkups are only offered in the campus clinic or the hospital. If they choose to visit something out of the campus they will have to pay some amount in the total bill and the insurance plan doesn’t cover it fully. The student has to keep this thing in mind.
Students, who are unfortunate to have a disease already before entering the college must be cautious about their condition, which may not be covered under the college student health insurance plans. They can receive the treatment in the campus center but the treatment of the original disease may not be provided under the insurance plans.
So it is very important that the various student health insurance policies must be studied properly before a student chooses which insurance to go with. Since these doesn’t cost much, price should not be main factor but the cost of treatment must be the real issue in choosing the health insurance plan for student.
